Brodie’s Music Therapy Journey
Brodie is a newer member of PASS who brings a thoughtful and curious energy to the program. While navigating challenges related to anxiety—particularly around noise—Brodie has shown great courage and openness in exploring new environments. Music has long been a source of interest for him, and since joining the Music Therapy group, he has quickly become an engaged and valued participant.
From the beginning, Brodie identified that loud sounds can be a significant trigger for his anxiety. However, he has embraced Music Therapy as a safe space where he feels empowered to express his needs. He consistently demonstrates strong self-advocacy by letting the Music Therapist know when the volume needs to be adjusted, and accommodations are made to ensure his comfort. This mutual respect has helped build trust and allowed Brodie to fully participate without fear or overwhelm.
As the weeks have progressed, Brodie has become an enthusiastic contributor to the group, often selecting songs that reflect his own musical tastes and sharing trivia that sparks connection with his peers. His growing confidence has helped foster a warm and collaborative group environment where everyone feels welcome. Brodie's positive attitude and support of others have made a meaningful impact on the dynamic of the sessions.
Looking ahead, Brodie and the Music Therapist will continue to work together to deepen his musical engagement and emotional expression. Future goals include encouraging Brodie to explore more active music-making experiences, such as drumming or singing, at his own pace, and developing tools to manage sensory sensitivity through music-based coping strategies. With continued support, Brodie will have more opportunities to express himself, connect with others, and thrive within the creative and inclusive space of Music Therapy.
