PASS Housing

PASS' housing initiative has been designed to meet the pressing need of many members to have long-term living solutions that are safe, financially sustainable, inclusive and independent from their family's home.

Our approach to housing centers around long-term rental units, at affordable rates, for individuals with developmental disabilities and their caregivers. We believe that by intentionally clustering these units in a single location, we can promote inclusion and community connection for PASS members. In all of our housing initiatives, PASS is committed to providing programming and coordination among the clusters to encourage interdependence, provide community oversight, facilitate respite, and minimize isolation.

“Whether your child has autism or not, you hope that as they grow in their 20’s that they will build a community of support around themselves. This provides them with self-determination, independence, and the opportunity to be warmly welcomed into a community of their choice in a way that is separate and distinct from their family of origin. Main & 6th is our first step in evolving PASS Daily into a lifetime solution for adults with autism that will outlast their parents—one that provides a lifetime of community support.”

— John McCulloch, Chair of the Board, Chair of the Housing Committee, PASS

Welcome to Aspen

Aspen is the first PASS Housing initiative located at Main & 6th. It provides 16 adults with autism and other developmental disabilities the opportunity to live independently of their families, with the appropriate level of individual support, in a community-based environment.

Aspen is a ten-story, mixed-use affordable housing apartment complex where PASS' 16 members and their caregivers will be living alongside residents of the other 135 rental homes. Located in the heart of Vancouver's Mount Pleasant neighbourhood, Aspen is on a major transit route, close to the Sky Train, nearby to two community centres, is a five-minute drive from Vancouver General Hospital, and includes the new location for the Mid-Main Community Health Center.

With access to below-market rents through a partnership with Catalyst Community Developments Society and further subsidized by funding from PASS, we are confident that living at Aspen will be a long term, financially sustainable solution for these 16 members.

We recognize that Aspen does not meet the unique needs of all of our members. As we look to the future, we are excited to increase the breadth and depth of our housing initiatives to ensure there are a variety of housing solutions available for PASS members that will provide each of them with a lifetime of community support.
